Child Safety Standards
Child Safety Standards
Onion Lake Cree Nation is committed to keeping our community platform safe for everyone, including children. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and we will act swiftly to remove such content and report it to the appropriate authorities.
The Onion Lake Community App is a community information service that shares news, events, leadership updates, documents, and announcements for members of Onion Lake Cree Nation. These standards explain how we prohibit, detect, and respond to CSAE and CSAM, and they apply to all content and activity on our platform.
Our prohibition against CSAE and CSAM
We strictly prohibit, and will not tolerate on any of our services, any content or conduct that sexually abuses, exploits, or endangers a child. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form, including images, video, audio, text, or links to such material.
- The sexualization of a minor, or content that depicts, encourages, or normalizes the sexual abuse of children.
- Grooming, solicitation, or any attempt to lure, coerce, or arrange sexual contact with a minor.
- Sexual extortion (sextortion) involving a minor.
- Trafficking of children or the facilitation of any of the above.
Anyone who violates these standards will have their content removed and their access permanently revoked, and we will report confirmed cases to the relevant authorities and cooperate fully with law enforcement.
Key definitions
Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE) means any act or content that sexually abuses or exploits a person under the age of 18, including grooming, sextortion, trafficking, and any behaviour that sexualizes a child.
Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) means any visual, written, or audio depiction of the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor.
In-app mechanism for user feedback and reporting
The Onion Lake Community App provides an in-app mechanism for users to submit feedback, concerns, or reports, including reports of suspected CSAE or CSAM. Users can reach this through the app’s feedback / report option, which routes the report to our team for review. Reports are reviewed promptly, and users may also contact our child safety point of contact directly using the details below.
How we address CSAM
When we obtain actual knowledge of CSAM on our platform, we take appropriate action in accordance with these published standards and applicable law, including:
- Removing the offending content as quickly as possible.
- Suspending or permanently banning the responsible account.
- Preserving relevant information as required for reporting and any investigation.
- Reporting confirmed CSAM to the appropriate authority — in Canada, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection through Cybertip.ca, and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where applicable.
Compliance with child safety laws
We comply with all applicable child safety laws and regulations, including Canadian requirements for the mandatory reporting of online child sexual abuse material. We keep our practices current as these laws and industry standards evolve, and our approach is informed by recognized child safety best practices.
