Edmonton Urban Office

The Edmonton Urban Office provides a variety of services for Onion Lake members living in the city, as well as those moving to Alberta’s capital region.

The Edmonton liaison worker – Florence Loyie – helps band members with information on where to find affordable housing, how to apply for income support, food resources, employment training, addictions counselling, educational opportunities and free or low-cost entertainment events. The office also has information regarding where to go for legal advice, tenants rights and obligations, support for domestic abuse victims, special-needs education and consumer advocacy.

Off-reserve members requiring access to services located in Onion Lake – such as the emergency assistance program, post-secondary sponsorship or housing – will find application forms at the urban office, as well as information on policies and criteria for assistance.

The office also provides help with those needing assistance with day-to-day tasks or clerical duties. The office does provide emergency transportation to the Edmonton Food Bank and medical appointments for those members who don’t have access to a vehicle or who have no funds for public transportation. Members can also have documents printed off and/or faxed at the urban office free of charge. Long-distance calls are permitted for emergency situations.

The Edmonton Urban Office also has a Facebook page which is constantly updated with information about job fairs, employment opportunities, cultural events and other programs that assist low-income families. Band members must request to join as the page is private.
